A brief history of Dancing Walrus

We just spent Christmas and New Year with Joni's mom in Ormond Beach, Florida. Dancing Walrus stood guard waiting for us in Fort Lauderdale. We have spent the past month getting her ready for our 'cast off' for the Pacific.

We intend to finish provisioning during the first week of Jan. and with winds permitting leave for the Yucatan in Mexico for a 'haul out' to top up' the bottom paint and some keel repairs before heading further South for the San Blas for some diving for a week or so. Then on to Panama and the 'Canal Crossing' and on the the Galapagos for several weeks of diving and exploring. We are full of anticipation!

This past year, 2011, we cruised 6,500 nm circumnavigating the Caribbean, returning from Cartegena, Colombia via Little Cayman and around Cuba to Florida and then decided to spend the summer exploring the East coast of the USA all of the way up to Boston, with our main focus being the above photo, with the Statue of Liberty. Our friend Robin loaned us his car for some land cruising in upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and more! Wally (Dancing Walrus) was waiting for us in Mystic Harbour. Upon our return, we went on to NY City, Annapolis, Norfolk and then back to Florida.

2010 we cruised from Fort Lauderdale down to St. Maarten, down along the Leewards and Windwards across to Curacao up to Puerto Rico through the Bahamas and back to Fort Lauderdale where we continued to ready our boat for the Pacific.

2009 we cruised from Ft Lauderdale down through the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Cayman Islands, Cuba and back to Ft Lauderdale.

2008 we cruised from Canary Islands, Spain to Cape Verde then across to St. Maarten down to Dominica up again to British and American Virgins, Puerto Rico, through the Bahamas and back to Fort Lauderdale.

2007 Ken bought his relatively new Privilege 495, in Southhampton, England in July. He took a one week hands on yachting course on his own boat. He returned in Sept. with Joni to finalize and sail her down to the Med. They left 17th Sept. stopping at Guernsey, northern Spain, Villamora, Portugal, down to Morroco, over to Gibralter, out to Madiera and down to the Canaries.
